This portrait bust was commissioned by the National Gallery, London, to acknowledge Getty’s £50 million donation to the gallery. It sits inside the main entrance to the gallery on the right hand side and was designed to make a pair with the marble bust of Charles Long, 1st Baron Farnborough, by Sir Francis Chantrey which sits to the left. A second cast with a black patina was made in 1998.
