During the Renaissance the paintings of Raphael were the most reproduced and widely disseminated works available to other artists. They became the source of figure compositions utilised in ways markedly different from their original purpose. I have found a cherub by Carpeaux whose pose is identical to that of a male figure falling down some steps in a painting by Raphael; and in turn I have used this device for my Tumbling Figure.
